Just off the needles: another pair of pom pom peds (free pattern at Purl Bee). I don't have any money for yarn these days, so I am knitting through my stash, which is mostly sock yarn. These socklettes (that is my mother's word for little socks) were knit with Knit Picks Imagination hand-painted yarn in a discontinued color called Pixie Dust. Imagination is very soft and knits-up better than I expected. I would consider purchasing it again for socks--very cozy :- ). For the pom poms and cuffs I used a small amount of On Line Linie2 wool/silk. This pattern knits up really quick and is super easy to follow. I think it would be a good one to try if you've never knit socks before and would like to learn how to do a standard slip stitch heel, as there are step-by-step instructions in the pattern with photos.
I finished reading the Red Garden, by Alice Hoffman. It was not structured like a typical novel. All of the stories and characters are set in a single town, and since I am currently obsessed with a small town in Massachusetts (I want to live there soooooo bad), I really liked it.
Today I'm going to begin reading Illuninations, by Mary Sharratt. She is one of my very favorite authors. I have been looking forward to reading this book for over a year now. I was so happy when the library called to tell me that my requested copy was available. This book is of particular interest to me because it is a novel about Hildegard von Bingen the medieval visionary who was declared a saint and Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XVI in May of this year. St. Hildegard was a healer, expert herbalist, invented her own alphabet, composed gorgeous music, preached (although a woman), wrote, and God spoke to her. She also struggled with illness all her life. She inspires me for so many reasons. but especially because she didn't begin writing and composing music until she was in her forties.
Joining Ginny in her weekly Yarn Along :- )
