It's silly, but we call our little pug by a lot of different names: Baby Gino, Malone, Charmin Ultra (because he's squeezably soft), Joe Biden (my little boy started calling him this during the last Presidential debates, don't ask me why) and Pugsy. He responds to all of them. Isn't that funny? His real name is Elvis. : )

In a few weeks my little "Mary" garden is going to be a rainbow of color. I can't wait. There are buds on all of my rose bushes. A troupe of tiny gnomes lives in the garden wall; see their little door? They take care of the weeds for me. I'm not kidding. I can't remember the last time I had to pull one.

I think it's been awhile since I posted a picture of baby Edna. I don't think I've ever had a smarter dog, but my, is she energetic! She's five months old and about half her adult size. She's going to be B I G.

The most exciting thing happened to me this week: I won a copy of Deanna Raybourn's new book A Spear of Summer Grass from Julie Peterson's wonderful blog, Booking Mama! If you've never visited her site you are in for a treat. Julie has tons and tons of book reviews and information for hosting book clubs. She also holds lots of contests and giveaways. Deanna Raybourn is one of my favoritest authors, so I am especially thrilled that I won (plus, this is the first time I ever won anything on the internet--woot! woot!).

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Oh, I do love a garden gnome!! There used to be one at a home across from the library - he was wood, so couldn't last forever, but I miss seeing him there.

Love your fairy, too. By "Mary garden", do you mean you're planting special things in there?

  3. I think I see your Mary Garden behind the gazing ball. What a peaceful scene. I like that not too far away live the gnomes and fairies... a lovely and diverse garden community you have! We have multiple names for our pets as well. It doesn't seem to bother them but drives my husband berserk. :-) Congratulations on your win!

  4. Tara,

This is so frustrating! I don't know why your lovely comments are not showing up here. : ( Thankfully, I do receive them via email.

That whole patch of garden (gazing ball, gnomes and fairies included) is dedicated to the Holy Mother. All of the plants represent some aspect of her life.
