My Christmas cactus is still blossoming and developing new buds--a wondrous event, considering that it hasn't bloomed for nine years!

I had to drive up to Derry, New Hampshire today to pick up animal feed and bedding, and I discovered a new yarn shop in town! I loved everything about the place, from the impressive selection to the warm and friendly staff. I couldn't resist leaving with a hank of Cherry Tree Hill supersock DK yarn in the Cherry Blossom colorway (which they kindly wound into a ball for me). It's going to make a really pretty pair of extra-cozy socks.

I don't watch a lot of t.v., but my daughters and I are enjoying the gentle new Hallmark series "When Calls the Heart". We plan on watching a couple of episodes tonight On Demand. With new yarn in my basket and a big stack of books yet to read, I find myself grateful for our long New England winter. More snow on the way Thursday!

  1. My Christmas cactus didn't bloom until the end of January and just dropped it's last bloom. Maybe one year the plant will look at the calendar and bloom in December. ;)
Hooray for new yarn shops and finding great looking yarn.
I am not a tv watcher either, but I have been watching and really enjoying the Olympics. It also helps that I can get a lot of knitting done at the same time.

  2. Yarn shops!!. Second only to bookshops...and libraries :)

We've had much hot summer weather here, but today is cooler, grey and showery (my kind of day!) xx

  3. That bloom is amazing and so well co-ordinated with your yarn. I love finding new yarn shops...book shops too I can spend hours in both. That program sounds like nice family viewing. I don't know if we have that channel. It seems that you are all set for a lovely cosy eveningSusan...enjoy your homely family time.

  6. Pretty, cheerful yarn! My cactus bloomed at Thanksgiving and is now putting on new leaves. Maybe it will bloom at Easter!? Yarn and a movie ~ perfect for a winter's evening ~ enjoy!

  7. Stay safe as the next wave of storms passes over. Oh, those vibrant blossoms on your cactus -- such a wonderful pick-me-up in late winter! Happy knitting with your beautiful new yarn, and many thanks for the nice comment you left me.

  8. yarn shops are just such a find for me! I don't have that many around me...but lots and lots of sheep farmers for roving :) My cactus only bloomed once - but I am still optimistic. Lots of green leaves and it looks pretty healthy, so I keep it just for that :)
