Yesterday, we drove up to Derry, New Hampshire to pick up rabbit and chicken feed, and of course, I also stopped in at The Yarn and Fiber Company to do a little browsing. I have never been a fan of the color pink until just recently--in fact, I used to hate it. But, people change. : ) Now, I find myself continually drawn to the color. I bought a gorgeous hank of Ivy Brambles "Sockscene" yarn in the Celosia colorway. It reminds me of roses. I think it might become a hat. I also came home with two hanks of Prism Mia sock yarn in a very spring-blossom-like colorway. As soon as my Shift of Focus cardi is finished, I plan to make a pretty pair of socks with it.

Last week, I started a little reading vocabulary project. I'm using an index card with a pencil clipped to it as a bookmark, and when I encounter a word with a meaning of which I am not 100% certain, I write it on my card. As soon as I can get to a computer, I look it up and write out the word's definition. I did this with the last book I read (Margot Livesey's Criminals) and filled up an entire card front and back! I learned some good words and felt that it enhanced my whole reading process. Last night, I started reading The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins. Already I have two words written on my card--this may be a three card book, I think.

  1. It's a good idea - I am usually content to remain fifty percent certain of the meaning, or I look it up and then of course forget the meaning. To write something down is to remember it for sure.

  2. good idea about the word list, might have to do that. I usually skim and guess the definitions :) I love how going feed shopping led to yarn shopping. I was never a fan of pink either but I bought the prettiest pink cardigan at the gap and love wearing it. It's THE perfect shade and I don't look washed out in it.

  4. Such pretty looking yarn! I think I have seen the Yarn and Fiber Co. at a couple of the sheep and wool festivals. They have some nice things. Happy Knitting!

  5. I use to not like pink either or purple for that matter and I love them.
I am glad I'm not the only one who visits the feed store and the yarn store when going to town ;)
    Have a great weekend.

  6. Oh my! That yarn is so pretty! I'm also not a huge pink fan but those skeins you have are definitely to pretty to resist!

  7. Mmmm... pretty colorways! I was never a pink person either. Then I got breast cancer and now half my closet is pink... it's weird how it just sort of happens. Anyway, now I like a good bright pink for days, pale pink for jammies. Love the idea of keeping a vocabulary card tucked inside the current read. I may steal that!
