On a sunny afternoon this week, I came across a lawn full of 'glory of the snow' flowers on Main Street. I am seeing them everywhere now, isn't that funny? These flowers were a small, beautiful thing in the midst of a really difficult week.

It's grey and raining out today so I baked some cookies to warm up the house. Chocolate chip with pecans. A couple of days ago our heating system stopped working. We've had the repairman here twice already, and he's coming back on Monday.

When I'm feeling down, I do impulsive things like adopt new pets. We got two guinea pig babies yesterday. The one at top left is Honey and the one at bottom right is Blossom. This is just a temporary cage for them. I'm going to look for a nice piece of old furniture at the flea market in the next couple of weeks and convert it into a permanent home similar to this one.

Blossom has a smooth, glossy, short coat and black eyes. Honey's coat is a little longer and her eyes are pink. When Luke holds them he bubbles over with joy. The piggies are adorable.

I stumbled upon this quote a few weeks ago: "It is to our own detriment that we underestimate the might of small and simple things." ~Richelle E. Goodrich.  Yes. And, I can tell you that in my life, there really is nothing else.

  1. I am so sorry that you've had a difficult week. (((Hugs))) my dear friend. I hope very much that things improve - and stay improved! Maybe the happiness the new guinea pigs bring will infuse all your days and make them shine with good energy. I definitely agree with Richelle, and with you - there is nothing else more important than the small and simple things. <3

    1. Thank you, Sarah. Lately, I have been wondering if things will ever get better. I wake up every day with a sense of dread/foreboding that is very difficult with which to cope. It means a lot to know I have friends who are praying for me and surrounding me with their good energy and thoughts.♥

The little piggies are helping to lift my spirits, too!

  2. Also, I have just been browsing your blogroll and it's so lovely. I actually started to make my own this morning but it was too difficult - I was fearful of hurting anyone by accidentally omitting their name, but at the same time didn't want it to be hugely long. In the end, I gave up. Yours is so nice though.

    1. I had fun putting my list together. It was a fairly simple task for me, since I tend to follow a select number of blogs anyway. I would certainly never want to hurt anyone's feelings; that is a thoughtful point. However, I do think it is important for a blogroll to reflect a blog owner's true taste. There are a handful of new-to-me blogs that I did not include, but since a blogroll is an ever evolving list, I may include them at a later date.

  3. Guinea Pigs are awfully cute, I've always thought. And that furniture home is fabulous-looking! Good luck finding something like it. I'm sorry your week was bad and glad you got the piggies. :) Your little flowers are reminiscent of bluets which you also love, although these are brighter.

We're supposed to have snow squalls in the early morning and get a couple of inches - are you, too? xoxo

    1. We woke up to a couple inches of snow yesterday--very beautiful, but I was glad when it all melted by the afternoon, and the hill across the lane was green again.

Yes, I do love little blue flowers of any kind. : )

And, we are loving our little piggies!

    1. Yes, indeed. The little things are what make up our days. The big things, well they are mostly intrusions and usually not happy ones!

Our black kitty's name is Indiana Jones. :)

We had a happy weekend with our new little piggies.♥

    1. Thank you, Liz. My family has been barraged in recent months with a series of really difficult circumstances that sometimes manage to overwhelm me despite my best coping strategies. But, the piggies are helping. :) They are adorable and soft and make delightful little noises. The littlest things often make the biggest difference.

  7. This life is never easy is it? I'm sorry it's been a tough week Susan, it's been a wee bit hard down here too, sigh.
I love seeing the new babies, they are so sweet. I have a duck that is brooding on a nest of eggs so I am waiting to see if she is successful!

    1. I think of you often, Tracey, as I know your family has also been going through tough times. Some days it is hard for me to see beyond the difficulties. It's the littlest things that make the difference. Babies are always a delight. I pray that the days ahead will bring comfort and joy to you and your family.♥

  8. The flowers are just beautiful, and the little pigs are so cute. I had to chuckle a little when you said that when you're down you do impulsive things like adopt new pets. That's a good thing! Now they have a nice, loving home, and will bring lots of smiles to you and the kiddos. :-) I really have to go check on Frodo Baggins and be sure he is still outside, because it looks like he just showed up in your 2nd photo above!
I'm saying a prayer for you that your week will be a good one.
    God bless, ♥
