The woods in New England are cool, dense and earthy, rustling with birds, chipmunks, snakes, rabbits and other small creatures. It is easy to believe that fairies and elves also live here.

I think I saw a fairy the other day. Or maybe it was a hummingbird.

I did see a beaver swimming in the pond. Busy. : )

And sweet, tiny ducklings:

And shy yellow goslings foraging with their mother in the woods:

I believe walking in these woods will heal you, make you better. But, you have to leave your headphones and your thoughts at home. You have to open your ears to woodsong and your eyes to simplicity, and your thoughts to wonder. Then, when you leave the woods, you will be taking something with you: Beauty. Joy. Peace.

"Beauty will save the world." ~Fyodor Dostoevsky

There is no place on Earth I would rather be in any season than here in these haunted woods full of dinosaur tracks, Native American artifacts, brightly feathered birds, wildflowers, and old stone fences.

  1. Even in a heat wave, Susan? :) But you're an early riser - I forgot. And I suppose it's cooler in the woods, anyway.

    1. Even in a heatwave the woods are cooler (relatively speaking). But, the walk I took in these photos was on a pleasantly cool day.♥

  2. that is how I feel about my area, I was in CA visiting my daughter and it was beautiful but I did a huge sigh and exhale being home sweet home among my trees, my dirt road, my singing birds and that lovely earthy smell in the air :)

    1. I loved your photos of your trip to Cali. There is nothing like a little time away to make a person see their own place on Earth with fresh and happy eyes. ♥

  4. My friend Susan......yet again you have provided us with such beautiful pictures of the Pond!!! As I read your dialogue, I decided to take your advice and walk the Pond without music and headphones. You are correct and have taught this old man you can always learn! Thank you.

    1. Thank you, Lew. I'm glad you gave it try. I love to listen to the birds and toads singing at this time of year, not to mention windsong and rainsong and all the different songs the Earth sings.
