Our four hens give us about 21 eggs per week. |

There was frost on the ground this morning when I took Elvis out, and let me tell you it was cold! I refuse to turn on the heat until November (I always try to make it 'til Thanksgiving, but rarely do), so after breakfast I organized a cleaning party to get everyone's blood moving. Here's what we did:
- Mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors
- Scoured the bathrooms
- Dusted and polished the house from top to bottom
- Vacuumed every room
- Stripped the beds and washed sheets
- Washed windows
- Sorted through the magazine pile and pulled out the oldies (I save these for cut and paste projects)
- Cleaned out the chicken coop
- Put a pot of stew on the stove
- Walked Elvis
- Baked an apple cake for Sunday morning breakfast :- )
- Made up the beds
- Baked a big batch of biscuits to go with supper
It was around three thirty in the afternoon when we walked the dog. The sun was already lowering in the western sky, and I saw a huge maple with orange-gold leaves all lit-up from behind like a window in a cathedral. I swear that I have never seen anything quite like it. I wish that I had brought my camera ...but it might not have translated well to film anyway. I suppose some things are best treasured in one's heart. Still, I would have liked to share it with you. <3
It's evening now and I feel good and tired. I'm going to pop some corn, settle in on the sofa with my knitting and my pug, and watch a very old zombie movie (
King of the Zombies 1941) with the kids.
