Mother's Day was marvelous, as it always is. My brother is visiting from another state and he and I went birdwatching in the woods. We saw a northern parula warbler, yellow warbler, warbling vireo, orchard oriole, great blue heron, red-tailed hawk, turkey vultures, blue gray gnat catcher, gold finches, house finches, grackles, cardinals, blue jays, lots of red-winged blackbirds, a pair of nesting northern orioles, a catbird and a robin each siting on nests, a ground hog, more turtles than we could count, and some chipmunks. We were both a little disappointed that it wasn't a better birding day. Aren't we silly?
This is a photo of a palm warbler that I took last year. I felt so lucky that this photo turned out so nice. I wish that I could have shown you a photo from my Mother's Day walk, but I killed two cameras just last week. I'm not kidding. First, the screen on my digital camera mysteriously broke. Then, my husband said that I could use his camera, and I totally fried it trying to upload my pictures to the computer. Apparently, I used the wrong cable. : (
Electronic devices are not safe near me.
I had a cellphone once. My friend asked me to put me in her contacts, and I told her, "I don't think my phone does that."
"Sure it does," she said, "let me see it." She pressed a bunch of buttons, a frown creasing her forehead. "Huh. That's funny."
"What? Did I break it?" I asked.
"Oh, no, no. You can't really break a cellphone," she said. But, I could tell by her face that somehow I had.
Thankfully, there were no small electronics to ruin my Mother's Day. Instead there were cinnamon buns for breakfast, lots of sitting and knitting, a great book to read, a long phone call with my mommy, a fabulous steak and shrimp supper cooked by my husband and daughter (yum!), and loads of love from my kids.
It was a very happy day. I hope yours was, too. : )
