This morning when I stepped outside to feed the chickens, I smelled spring--not that "spring is coming" smell you catch in March when the Earth is just waking up, but that wonderful "spring is here" fragrance that makes you want to do a twirl. I stood for a long time, breathing it in and listening to the birds, while Elvis sniffed around the tree wearing his puggy smile.
I've started knitting Zest, a nifty lace cardi pattern by Jennifer Thompson. It's cleverly designed with a simple, addictive pattern repeat. So far, I love it! I'm using Knit Picks "Palette" wool in the Oregon Coast Heather colorway, which is so lovely up close, you really have to see it. The warm tan is heathered with gray, blue, green and red tones.
This week I am reading Lost Cat: A True Story of Love, Desperation, and GPS Technology, by Caroline Paul, with drawings by Wendy MacNaughton. It is, in a sense, a picture book for grown-ups. Gosh, I wish they would publish more books like it. We are such a visual culture that it makes sense to combine words and images for maximum impact. Lost Cat is funny, poignant, wonderful--a must read for cat lovers.
Have a lovely day!

lovely stitch pattern in the sweater! It is muggy here a bit, and that is not the smell I enjoy of spring. Low humidity smells better.
ReplyDeleteI like the stitch pattern too. And the color. I need to order some KnitPicks yarn to try it out...it's not in the 2 LYS that I go to, and I keep seeing it and loving it online!
ReplyDeleteLoving the stitch pattern. I don't have a LYS so I order a ton of yarn from KnitPicks. I love the details that so many of their yarns have.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have you back again! I, too, like that stitch pattern. The border gives it a great frame, too. I have not tried knitpicks yet, but I need to someday as I hear it mentioned frequently. Off topic for this post, but I looked at your research list and oooooh, now I am very intrigued. Will we have a chance to read what you are writing?
ReplyDeletesuch pretty knitting susan! hi puppy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pattern! And color is very nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for stopping by and leaving me such nice comments. : )
ReplyDeleteTara, I was notified by email that you posted a comment, and yet it's not here. Ah, the mysteries of Blogger! Anyway, I want to thank you for your kind words and for taking a look at my Research Notes page--I certainly hope that I will be able to share my novel with everyone in the near future. I'm working on finding a publisher. : )
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of spring. Here, the smell of spring means lilacs. :) Your dog is adorable. The sweater looks like it is going to be very pretty.
ReplyDeleteYour cardi is looking gorgeous. The yarn colours sound divine.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy reading and looking at your book.
