Some yarn I ordered arrived in the mail today. Five balls of Knitpicks Comfy Sport. You'll never guess what I'm going to make with it, and I'm not going to tell you. It is a surpise! The postman also brought me a new book of patterns inspired by the Anne of Green Gables stories. Right away, I have marked two items that I want to make this summer: Diana's Hat (a very pretty slouchy style) and Rachel's Tablerunner. The lovely deep gold skein is from a yarn shop in upstate New York. It's Periwinkle Sheep "Watercolors" sock yarn, a superwash merino and nylon blend by indie dyer Karin Maag-Tanchak who is based in Albany. The color is "chai"--I love it. I'm not sure if it's going to become socks or something else. Maybe it will become a cute little something for my neighbor's new baby boy. A pebble vest and booties set? Hmmm. The thing is, at some point it's going to warm up outside (I hope). Today it's rainy and cool. Again.
For ten dollars you can have a lot of fun at a flea market. For ten dollars you can become rich with treasures. The fact that someone else loved these items first makes them even more special to me--like heirlooms. On a recent trip to the market I found an elegant, English bone china coffee mug by Roy Kirkham & Co. It was just the thing for my sixteen year old daughter who loves cat things. I also found some lovely, old, hand-appliqued and embroidered cloths and a linen tea towel stamped front and back with an old-fashioned, New England covered-bridge scene. I plan on turning these into lined, drawstring project bags. And, I nearly swooned when I found this blue and white porcelain teapot and cat creamer. They're not a set, but aren't they grand together?
Wishing you a lovely weekend, friends. . : )
So much sweetness :-)
ReplyDeleteOh Susan...what a beautiful teapot my friend :) I try not to go to too many flea markets, I am not as strong willed as I should be :( ... your treasures are just lovely, enjoy them! mari
ReplyDeleteThe book and yarn look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYes, grand together. It brings such satisfaction to find things like that so frugally. I look forward to seeing what you are knitting.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing where you walk, it's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have that knit book on my wish list and am glad to hear it's good. You have some beautiful yarns for your projects.
What great flea market finds and yes, the tea kettle and cat go very well together. I like your idea of turning the linens into bags and will have to remember that so I can use it one day.
Enjoy a great weekend.
a secret knitting project....how secretive you are my dear! Can't wait to see. Love your treasures and love the price you paid. So cost effective and yet bursts with happiness!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a bit under the weather today and this post has really cheered me up Susan. It was just what I needed. Full of lovely magical Pollyanna things. I love the little creatures on your walk. They are like something out of a Beatrix Potter tale. The turtle next to the duck!! so cute. This is all lovely. The hat looks really nice I've just checked it out and your vintage finds are awesome. I must share some of mine. We are getting odds and ends with the new house in mind.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the Whitney sews project. She is so good. The last time that my sister Becky visited we had a sewing day. She wanted to make a circle skirt and we found Whitney's turorial for one. It worked amazingly.
Have fun with all your projects.

The images with this post are so sweet -- I feel as though I've stopped by Tasha Tudor's for a visit! I spent a grand sum of $14 last week between a rummage sale and charity garage sale and left with a beautiful set of wooden kitchen items and fun vintage cookware for the college kid and a pair of winter slippers and two garden planters for myself. And I felt quite puffed up about it all! You have a lovely knack for selecting the right yarn for a pattern (or is it the other way around?). I look forward to seeing your new knits!
