Halloween, strange things seen,
ghosts may walk, skeletons talk
On Halloween
~a round we sang forty years ago in elementary school

I loved Halloween as a kid and I still love it:  carving pumpkins, Halloween parades, ghost stories, wearing costumes, collecting candy from the neighbors. What fun!

I am acquainted with a few families who don't let their children trick or treat for religious reasons ( they believe Halloween is satanic). They do other things with their kids, like host Harvest parties, which is nice, too.

Halloween is a great night for kids, but a tough night for pets. Our black cat Indiana Jones will be hiding under Amy's bed all night. And the dogs will have to be put in their crates (they go wild when the doorbell rings). In our neighborhood, trick or treating lasts about two hours, so they won't be confined for too long.  The kids are back home by 8:00 pm. We go through their loot, pop a big kettle of corn, and settle in to watch a spooky movie.

And then it's November.

I'm looking forward to the switch back to Standard Time tonight!

  2. I love Halloween and wish I lived in an area where I had trick or treater's. When my babies were little we would drive into town and spend the evening with friends just so the kid's wouldn't miss out, it was so much fun.
I can't wait to come off of daylight savings time!

  3. Well, I can't believe how many kids we had - it lasted for three hours! I was afraid we'd run out of candy, but we scraped by. :D

  4. We had just a handful of trick or treaters. Quite a change from our old house where it was constant from 6-8. This is the first year neither of my kids were interested in going out, so it ended up being a really quiet night!

  5. I don't like halloween (too much stress figuring out kid's costumes and I guess I have anxiety left over). However, I do LOVE the time change immensely! and being cold! and wearing wool! Your little one has grown so much!!

  7. I love the switch back to regular time. I know I'm in the minority but I love when it gets dark earlier in the winter months. It seems so cozy.
